Computer Basics

Computer Basics – All of these sessions will be about an hour and a half long, usually with about a half hour of presentation, a half hour of practice and another half hour of presentation and questions.  Two tracks of four sessions Thursdays 12:30-2 or Fridays 4-5:30. Registration is Required.

Week One – Computer Basics – Exploring the physical and virtual environments of computing – turning the computer on, parts of a computer, interacting with a computer, hardware/software, using software to change your virtual environment.  April 6th at 12:30pm OR April 7th at 4pm

Week Two – Websites and Internet Safety – Basic familiarity with the computing environment is expected -The internet, urls, Internet browsers, parts of a website, using search engines, evaluating information on a website, Cookies, antivirus, Pop-ups, Identity Theft and Phishing scams. April 13th at 12:30pm OR April 14th at 4pm

Week Three – Email & Internet Safety – Basic familiarity with the computing environment is REQUIRED!  –  what is e-mail, e-mail providers, setting up an e-mail account, parts of an e-mail, e-mail etiquette, sending and receiving e-mail, adding attachments.  Spam e-mails and Phishing emails. April 20th at 12:30pm OR April 21st at 4pm

Week Four –Social Media & Internet Safety and privacy- An E-mail address and some computer knowledge is REQUIRED! – Social media platforms, Privacy Settings, putting media on Social Media, Social etiquette, evaluating information and algorithms, private messaging, sharing posts. April 27th at 12:30pm OR April 28thth at 4pm
