Author Talk and Book Signing with Richard Robison Jr.

The Olean Public Library is excited to welcome local author Richard Robison for a reading from his memoir The Boy from Nowhere (released September 2023) with a discussion following. His reading selection will represent the local connection he has with Olean and the talk following may include local history fun facts as well.

The Boy from Nowhere is Robison’s first full length book. He has previously written short stories and non-fiction including content on Robert F. Kennedy’s visit to Olean during his run for the senate. While his new release is a memoir, Robison states it reads more like a novel. The story explores the difficult transitions Robison’s family experienced when they relocated several times during his childhood. Significant family trials are also endured, but the book includes themes of hope and humor as well as lessons (especially of forgiveness) learned while growing up. The city of Olean plays a special part in Robison’s personal history and therefore his book: he spent his 8th and 9th grade years as a resident here.

Robison currently lives in East Aurora, New York and has spent time in many New York cities including Olean, Buffalo, and Rochester. He attended SUNY colleges in Buffalo and Fredonia, has degrees in Humanities and English along with a doctorate in creative writing. He is a retired English professor,  life-long skier (including competitive), coach, baseball player, and bicyclist!
