Activity Schedule
for the Olean Public Library

Story Times, Investigation Stations, Kids and K9s and More

All programs are free, but registration is required because of limited space in our program room. If a program during one block is full and your child is on a waiting list he or she will be given preference during the next block. Register in the children's area of the library, by phone at (716) 372-0200, or online by clicking the link next to the desired program.

You may register you child for any or all of the blocks at any time on a space available basis. We are using this schedule to coincide with the area schools that have switched to a split break (one week in February and one week in April) instead of their traditional two week spring break.

This schedule will also allow us to offer school-age programs during school breaks and accommodate family vacations.

Block One
will begin the week of January 23, 2012 and end the week of February 13, 2012
Block Two
will begin the week of March 5, 2012 and end the week March 26, 2012
Block Three
will begin the week of April 16, 2012 and end the week of May 7, 2012

Mother Goose Time

For infants up to 18 months

A program for infant and toddlers to 18 months that includes interactive books and simple stories, nursery rhymes, songs, language games, Baby Sign, and play. Each child must be accompanied by a participating adult. Adults are encouraged to help the child participate in the activities at a developmentally appropriate level. Parents and children can spend time socializing before or after the program and select items to borrow from our large collection of children's and adult materials. Click here for registration form

Toddler Time

For children age 19 months to 3 years

With an adult, children listen to stories, learn songs, rhymes, finger plays, and participate in group play and creative art projects. Spend some time before or after the program socializing with other parents and toddlers and selecting items to borrow from our large collection of children's and adult materials. Investigation Stations Activity Groups

For children ages 3 to 5

  • Monday @ 6:30 AM
  • Wednesday @ 10:00 AM

Three, four, and five year olds and their parents participate in stories, music, and games as a group, followed by assisted activities at the Investigation Stations. Both sessions feature the same activities, so you may select either the morning session or the evening session. Click here for registration form

Kids and K9s

Any school age child may participate

  • Monday @ 3:30-4:30 PM
  • Tuesday @ 3:30-4:30 PM
  • Tuesday @ 6:30-7:30 PM
  • Thursday @ 3:30-4:30 PM

Register in person or by phone by February 29, 2012. Sessions will start March 5, 2012. Sessions will not be scheduled unless there are at least two participants for the session.

Bree is one of several TDI certified, therapy dog/ handler teams participating in the Kids and K9s Reading Together program at the Olean Public Library.

Co-sponsored by the Olean Kennel Club, Inc., this program gives children the opportunity to practice their reading fluency and gain confidence by reading to Therapy Dogs.

Participants have 20 minutes individual reading time and may bring their own reading material. Any school age child may participate.
